It's a yeast bread sort of day

Yesterday was acceptable until it suddenly wasn't, right at the end, uggggh. I ended up breaking my music-practice streak of 51 (or was it 52?) days, and although realistically it's not the biggest deal in the world, it feels symbolically significant.

Today, though, I'm making (or at least attempting) yeast bread for the first time in a long time, maybe since before the sourdough baking craze of COVID times; I recall rather tetchily not baking any bread then, as I didn't have the funds to go ordering things willy nilly, and all my attempts to create a sourdough starter from scratch in this living space have turned out badly.

Among the okay bits of yesterday was an unplanned seasonal item spree at the craft store, since I had an order to pick up and fall and Halloween stuff was on sale. I forgot how reckless it is to go into a Michaels at this time of year, and as a result the concentration of cauldrons and pumpkin-themed baking items in my vicinity has notably increased.

Still need to work on Many Things for the day, but it seemed like a good idea to indulge my urge to use words where other people can see them.

comments

Here there be (a) dragon

It's an announcement sticky!

Once upon a time, under another username, I had a Livejournal. It was a personal journal that I only wrote in here and there, but I have fond memories of it, and I'm using this account the same way. As on LJ, my posts here are mostly access-only*, because part of what I miss about the Olden Days was having the ability to choose who I was talking to. If you're interested in following along with my nonsense and maybe in being real live internet friends, feel free to send a request.*

In existing here, I'm also attempting to reawaken useful skills that have gotten wonky or gone dormantish, like connecting with friendly strangers who have things in common with me. As of September 2025 I'm contemplating posting more crafty/artsy stuff, as that's supposed to be a core part of my identity and that piece of my soul has gotten pretty painfully dusty thanks to a variety of wrongnesses.

*Not sure whether "send a request" is the Dreamwidth-correct terminology; I'm sure you know what I mean. I also find the LJ term "friends-locked" rather more charming than "access-only," but I bow to locally defined accuracy in this case.

comments

Whimsical link of the day: Jo Walton and A History of Hugs

Earlier I was writing a thing, and Googled "best-related" to get an idea of whether anyone would think that word combination made sense the way it made sense in my head. One of the things that popped up is an old blog post by Jo Walton, in which she mentions that her aunt mistook the book title An Informal History of the Hugos for the title History of Hugs. I'm sure it will entertain me again someday to come across this, so maybe it will also entertain someone else right now. Also, there's an image of a monk hugging an angel in the post. If that sounds like something you would enjoy, then here it is, and enjoy!

comments
